USA Rugby South Panthers
The Vision
Last year we set out a vision to win the NACRA championship and we did! It required a lot of sacrifices in time and money from everyone but we delivered. We won the 2013 NACRA Championship and in doing so became the only territorial/provincial side to win any iRB Championship. It was one hell of an experience both in rugby and culture!
As a result of that success, we don’t have to go through multiple qualifying rounds in 2014 and hopefully some financial support from the IRB/ NACRA will become available. If we win the North section of the tournament we get to host the final!
The competition begins playing Bermuda at home on May 10 and the Caymans away on June 14. Both of these dates have been carefully selected to avoid any National club commitments. Everyone should be available for selection.
The campaign begins with an open try out in Atlanta, January 18 at Kennesaw State University after which a squad of 50+ will be selected to take us through the competition.
We want 2 or 3 warm up games and will be looking for opportunities against quality opposition. The dates will be influenced by availability of good opposition and club commitments but we expect all players to set The South as their priority.
As last year, a $200 deposit is expected if you are selected to the squad. This will be used to offset costs, so start putting some money aside for the ride! If you make the squad and for whatever reason are not able to play, your contribution will be returned. We shall be looking for financial support from all sources to help offset costs.
Dave Conyers, Rene Daniel, Jody Hensley will remain as coaches and more may be added.
The team management needs more volunteers to spread the load. Please indicate your interest/commitment by email to John Devonport, Manager or Kevin Kitto, President USA Rugby South.
GO PANTHERS!
